I've seen it there and from the look of it I thought it was for fire practice etc...

.. and google images confirms that: http://aviation-safety.net/photos/fire/990074-F-d-1-500.jpg

Yeh its a metal mockup, inside there are 2 stories, so its a small mockup of a 747 for fire training purposes. There are many of these green mockups at airports around the UK including Manchester/Gatwick/Birmingham

Actually, it's not a mockup of any aircraft in particular.

It's got the forward hump of a 747, but only 2 wing engines and a tail engine of a DC-10.  Some of them look like a hybrid of a C-5/BAe-146 and a 727.

It just depends on what they order.

Yeah, they have a couple of them around Gardermoen ENGM also I think. Remember seeing one last time I was there.

I recall seeing one at Stansted this summer, on the other side of the runway across the terminal. It looked like a BAC 1-11 from the front and a DC-10 from the back... A really ugly bird with the creepy green color.

What is the deal with the green colouring anyway?

Possibly the cheapest industrial/military surplus basic aircraft paint available on the market?

ahhh probably. Or is it a cheap metal that can cope with being set fire to time and time again?
