recomendations for specs of a self-built comp

Dell.....obvious the cheapest way is to make your own but if you have limited experience in that area Dell is your cheapest/best bet

Fair enough Gareth, I didn't realise that!

Dell are cheap Joseph - but like most things in life, you get what you pay for. They tend to use low-spec hardware, which is not a good thing when you're running FS2004. I buy MESH - their customer support is appalling (and normally I wouldn't touch a company like that) but their prices are unbeatable and being an IT engineer, I am prepared to solve any problems I might encounter rather than contact MESH.

Of course you could also do a home-build, but you need to know what you're doing, and which components are compatible with each other etc.

Gaming is pretty much the most taxing thing you will throw at your computer and FS is far more taxing than any normal game. Therefore if you want to play FS, there will inevitably be a cost involved when keeping the hardware up to speed for the current version of FS. Always bear in mind that you are getting many features of professional simulators at a mere fraction of the cost!

BAW:
True; but if you look at what your getting;

http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/products/compare.aspx/dt_advanced?c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&l=en&s=dhs

You can get a very good system for around the £500 mark, 3Ghz processor, 1GB Memory, 250GB Storage, ATI X600 Graphcis, maybe if you want you could add £150 on top and get a different more decent graphics card and your away

GBOAF:
thanks for your help guys, i do have another topic started in non-aviation about reccomendations on a self-built pc

i did do a pc repair/build course at college so i am quite confident in what i am building myself and what is compatible, etc. The only bit that scares me is 'glueing' the heat-sink onto the processor.

So i will probably take the fail-safe option and go with dell or mesh.

anychance of carrying this topic on pcs over to my topic  in non-aviation?

Its just that i think we are drifting away from the main topic here

Thanks

Regards

Gareth

Tell me about itI could write a 4 page letter on the disgusting service I had from these shiesters! I don't normally state such things publicly but lies and poor service go hand in hand with that lot, DO NOT GO NEAR THEM AT ANY COST I did and I am regretting it daily..rant over
