Possible spam to private messages
If you have received e-mails stating that "you have a new private message in the forums", please:
1) do not open any links in that e-mail
2) do not reply to that e-mail
3) there is no need to notify the administration
A person using a free e-mail service registered to our forums (all log files and IP information is stored) and started to spam manually to public forums and also to private message boxes of users by copying the same messge everywhere with a few links and a rather nasty picture.
This is the first time ever this has happened and administration is working on the case as we speak. We have all necessary information stored of the person, but unfortunately when Googling the users IP it appears that similar attacks to other forums (regardless of software used) have also happened before. To avoid the same happening again we have taken some actions to enforce the security at the forums even more: e-mail notifications of PMs have been turned off for all members (please turn it back on from your profile if you wish), all new members must be manually approved by administration (this has been already the case for certain free e-mails for the last 2 years). Also the layout of PM e-mail notifications will change not to include the content of the message.
We are terribly sorry about this event. We have acted to remove all the messages posted and it happened within 10 minutes of the posting, once the administrators were brought online (time here now 4am), but unfortunately due to the nature of the forums PM notification, the copy of the message was also sent as a notification about new private message to the e-mail of some members.
Please note however that in no case your personal data such as e-mail has gotten to wrong hands. E-mail addresses are hidden completely from regular users, and the e-mail what you might have received is just the automated notfication of the forum system.
