Q: What are the general areas in MSFS aircraft design?

A: Aircraft has three parts: Visual model, flight model and textures. You need separate programs for each aspect of design.


Q: What programs can be used in visual model designing?

A: Most commonly used visual model designers:
- gMax, supplied with FS2002 Pro & FS2004 (gMax itself is free, but you'll need FS2002 Pro / FS2004 version in order to create MSFS compatible add-ons). gMax tutorials: Site 1, Site 2, Site 3.

Commercial programs are:
- FSDS (or FSDS2) by Abacus, creates either Bgl's or API macros


Q: How do I make textures, and what program/programs may I use?

A1: Any paint program, like Paint Shop Pro or Gimp.

A2: For converting textures into FS format you need DXTBMP
