IVAO's Christmas fly-in 16.12.06, 16-23 UTC @ EFRO & EFKT
Christmas fly-in in Finland
Christmas is getting closer and so is the traditional Christmas fly-in on Ivao. This is the first year of operation for the Finnish division and we are now starting to organize our second major online event for Christmas time.
More details of the event itself will follow later on, the date has not been set yet. However the fly-in will focus on the Rovaniemi airport (EFRO) on the edge of the Arctic Circle. Rovaniemi is naturally the home airport of Santa Claus! There is also a marvellous freeware scenery by the Finnish Scenery Designers available for this airport.
For all VAs and other groups that are planning to participate in the event, please contact our division via e-mail so that we are aware of the planned traffic and can give details as the fly-in planning is progressing. You can e-mail for example me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Ivao Finland will also naturally arrange ATC coverage for the event. For all our Finnish ATCs this is a preliminary notice to make sure you've done the training needed. The controllers for the fly-in positions will be selected as follows:
+ APP will be manned with at least a C2 level controller, with necessary Ivao-FI training for approach positions done.
+ TWR / GND will be manned by a C1 or higher level controllers with Ivao-FI tower training completed.
Christmas fly-in 16.12.06, 16-23 UTC
The traditional Christmas Fly-in to Finland takes place this year on December 16th. Fly-in focuses on two northern airports, Rovaniemi (EFRO) and Kittilä (EFKT).
This is the first year when Ivao Finland gets the possibility to arrange this Christmas Fly-in. On previous years the base airport has been Helsinki, but now the event takes the pilots to Arctic Circle's freezing and snowy airports - to the home of Santa Claus himself! Fly-in takes place on EFRO and EFKT airports on 16.12.2006, starting at 16 UTC.
Fly-in will feature a fully staffed Rovaniemi airport (tower, ground, approach), Rovaniemi area control radar and also a smaller Kittilä airport will be open with tower controller. Kittilä is a special airport with no radar service provided and thus is an interesting place to visit too - if you are confident with your procedural navigation skills!
Own website of this event opens later this month.
