Helsinki-Malmi. The GA Gateway of Finland.
Hello to everyone! The "flying" Finns are organizing a VFR fly-in to Helsinki-Malmi airport (EFHF). The idea is to have EFHF_GND, EFHF_TWR, EFHK_APP and maybe EFES_CTR so there will be a lot of ATC. Everyone is warmly welcome.
As a special spice we have the real EFHF ATC staff (EFHF ground, tower, supervisor, assistants and staff from Malmi briefing, airport administration and duty office) visiting us as the Fly-in is on.
Our main idea is to get a lot of VFR traffic to the busiest GA airport in Finland. Arriving IFR is techicly hard thing to fly at Malmi since there is only VOR/DME for runway 36 and 2NDB for runway 18 available and they are both interfearing EFHK's(the bigger INTL sister airport) traffic. Departing ain't that big deal. Generally anything bigger than King Air is a no-go. EFHF's longest runway is 1340m, the others are even less.
A Good idea is to first fly to EFTU (Turku) or EETN (Tallinn) in IFR and then continue in VFR to Malmi as its a 40min flight from either TN or TU to EFHF. Also worth mentioning is that there will be a lot of finnish "on air" as we are expecting finnish pilots.
Normally the biggest aircraft to use Malmi are the Finnish parachuting club's DHC8 Twin Otter and the Finnish Frontier guard's Dornier.
