But does this mean then that you have to register on IVAO and also download the relevant software for IVAO use?

Of course you have to register and download some things but that only takes a few minutes and just because you are a meber of IVAO doesn't mean that you always have to fly there. IVAO is open for everybody to try.
If you want to fly you need to register and then download IVAP,IVAO MTL and Teamspeak. That's it. Everything can easy be done on: www.IVAO.aero
Belive me, on this event it's well worth it! Give it a shot and see what IVAO has to offer
